Server Requirements

Before installing the plugin, verify that your server meets the following requirements.

Operating System and cPanel Version

The plugin requires a cPanel server running AlmaLinux 8 or later with the Jupiter theme. cPanel must be version 134 or later, which is standard on all currently supported cPanel platforms. The plugin is compatible with both shared hosting and dedicated server environments.

PHP Version

PHP 7.4 or later is required. cPanel ships with PHP 7.4 or later on all supported platforms, so no additional PHP installation or configuration is needed. The plugin does not require any additional PHP extensions beyond the defaults provided by cPanel.

Network Access

The server must have outbound HTTPS access to reach the Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) validation servers. For DNS-01 validation (required for Wildcard SSL Certificates), the server must manage the Domain Name System (DNS) zone for the domains being secured.

SSH Access

Secure Shell (SSH) root access is required for the initial installation only. The plugin itself runs with cPanel user permissions and does not require root access during normal operation.

Download and Installation

Installation is a one-time operation performed via Secure Shell (SSH) as root. The process takes approximately one minute and makes the plugin immediately available to every cPanel user on the server.

Download

The plugin package and installation instructions will be available on this page once the plugin has launched. The package includes the plugin files, the Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) client, the DNS validation hook, and the installation and uninstallation scripts.

Installation Steps

The installation script performs the following operations automatically. It downloads and verifies the Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) client using SHA-256 checksum verification. It copies the plugin files into the cPanel theme directory. It registers the plugin with cPanel's Feature Manager so it appears in the cPanel dashboard. It rebuilds the icon sprites so the plugin icon displays correctly. Once complete, every cPanel user on the server sees "Trustico® SSL Certificates" in their Security section.

The plugin supports the Jupiter theme by default and can be installed to alternative themes using the --theme flag. The installation script validates the theme name and verifies all file integrity before completing.

Verifying the Installation

After installation, log in to any cPanel account on the server and navigate to the "Security" section. The "Trustico® SSL Certificates" plugin should appear in the list. Click on it to verify that the plugin page loads correctly and displays the "Select Your Virtual Host" dropdown.

Uninstallation

An uninstall script is included to cleanly reverse the installation process. The script removes the plugin files from the cPanel theme directory and deregisters the plugin from the Feature Manager. Icon sprites are rebuilt after removal.

Per-user data is preserved during uninstallation. This includes installed SSL Certificates, automatic reissue configurations, and the Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) client installation. This means that SSL Certificates already installed by users continue to function and renew even after the plugin is removed.

Per-User Cleanup

A separate cleanup utility is included for removing per-user data on an individual basis. This is useful when decommissioning a specific cPanel account or performing a complete removal. The cleanup utility removes the user's ACME client installation, reissue configurations, job status files, and error logs. It does not remove installed SSL Certificates from cPanel's SSL management system.

Feature Management

The plugin registers with cPanel's Feature Manager during installation. Hosting providers can use the Feature Manager to control which cPanel users have access to the plugin. By default, the plugin is available to all cPanel users on the server. To restrict access, create a custom feature list in cPanel's Feature Manager and disable the "Trustico® SSL Certificates" feature for specific packages or accounts.
